Describes 4 studies, using a total of 148 Ss (7–12 yrs old) that attempt to obtain data on children's ability to consent to psychological research. Ss came from relatively affluent, suburban families and had parents who were willing to have them participate in the research. Most of the Ss understood all or most of what they were asked to do in a psychology study but few Ss below age 12 fully understood or believed that their performance would be confidential. |
