Discusses the concepts of conflict-free and ego autonomy introduced by H. Hartmann (1939, 1950) and the role of autonomy in human behavior. These are considered in light of Freud's (1900, 1911) formulation that thought is experimental action, Freud's second signal theory of anxiety, the intrapsychic process, and the consideration of ego functions that occur after the ego judges. |
