Resumen:	There have been a number of proposals for revising the somatoform disorders, with some even advocating abolition of the category. Critiques of the somatoform disorders have focused on a number of problems including conceptual, philosophical, empirical, and practical issues. Yet patients who present with multiple physical symptoms and excessive health concerns are common in general medical settings.
