A recent report suggests that obesity, caused by poor diet and physical inactivity, likely soon will overtake tobacco smoking as the leading cause of preventable deaths in the United States [ 1 ]. This report states that in 2000, it was estimated that obesity, was responsible for about 400,000 preventable deaths. This compares to an estimated 435,000 preventable deaths caused by tobacco smoking. |
