Overweight and obesity are linked to increased health risks because of numerous chronic diseases, including heart disease, diabetes, and various forms of cancer [ 1 ]. This is of concern because of the increasing rates of obesity in the United States over the past 30 to 40 years [ 2 ]. To address this concern, effective interventions are needed to induce weight loss, prevent weight regain, and prevent weight gain in persons of normal weight. |
